This is only system in the world to detect systolic, diastolic
blood pressure non-invasively from rat and mouse tails with
heart rate, peripheral blood flow and volume.

The system design is very easy to use providing low temperature,
low stress, non-invasive blood pressure readings from
animals down to 20g or less.

It provides automatic cuff inflation and automatic cycling for
continuous, unattended operation. Automatic pump, transducers
and amplifiers are self contained and signals are be captured on
a recording device or data acquisition system (sold separately).


Data acquisition can be completely automated with the O u r
XBP001-R system. The XBP001-R system records signals, d i splays,
derives and stores readings for systolic and diastolic
blood pre s s u re and heart rate on a personal computer.

A complete XBP1000 series system consists of the
inflation/pressure detection unit, occlusion cuff, plethysmographic
cuff, and warming restrainer. Cuffs and restrainers are
available for mice, small, medium and large rats (see below).

Blood flow and blood volume can be approximated using the
plethysmographic cuff signal of the XBP1000 system. It works
much like occlusion plethysmography does in humans to measure
blood flow and volume in the extremities. The rising
plethysmograph signal of the XBP1000 system, after tail occlusion,
denotes a return of arterial blood to the animal’s tail.
Following a simple calibration procedure, the volume and
flow of blood re-entering the tail can be calculated.

The automated Mouse/Rat Tail Blood Pressure systems are the
easiest to use and provide reproducible readings of non-invasive
systolic blood pressure and heart rate.


Our system obtains reliable readings by using an occlusion cuff
that is separate from the ultra-sensitive piezoelectric pulse
sensor. The cuff and sensor are free to move with the tail. This
makes the system more immune to noise and artifact.


The new design is very easy to use providing low temperature,
low stress, non-invasive blood pressure readings from animals
down to around 23g or less.


The warming restrainer has been improved and now has a miniature
temperature controller that can be set for optimal results with
minimal stress. Systolic BP readings can be obtained within a
5mmHg range. Use the C-1600MP Non Contact thermometer to
determine optimal tail temperature for obtaining the best readings.

Each channel of the rat tail blood pressure system is complete
with all that is needed for one rat. A recording device is
required, such as a data acquisition system, chart recorder or
oscilloscope. The RTBP001 data acquisition system can take
automatic readings. Systems are also suitable for gerbils and
other small animals with tails.


Single rat system includes:
RTBP2000 automatic pump with
built in pressure transducer and pulse sensor amplifier, occlusion
cuff, piezoelectric pulse sensor, warming restrainer, cables
and manuals. See below for specific occlusion cuff size and
restrainer size.


Multiple rat system includes: components of single rat system
plus additional warming restrainers, occlusion cuffs, pulse sensors,
stacking amplifiers and BNC cables.

The RTBP001-R or the XBP001-R are low cost, dedicated data
acquisition systems for controlling, recording and a u t o m a t i c a lly
detecting non-invasive blood pre s s u re parameters.
 

The RTBP001-R system records a common occlusion cuff pressure
signal and up to four individual pulse signals. It displays
the signals on charts and indicates with a marker where the
reading was taken. The user can let the worksheet determine the
reading or use cursor function to select blood pressure and pulse
rate. The readings are displayed on digital meters and can be
written to a spread sheet or database using Windows ODBC
function. The XBP001-R records signals and derives readings
from a single XBP1000 series system.

Raw signal data and the derived readings are logged to disk in
separate files. The data file containing the blood pressure readings
can be opened by most popular spreadsheet or word
processor programs.

The economical cost of the systems with the low cost of today’s
computers make these the most cost effective recording choice.
Much more economical than a chart recorder, and it saves a
lot of time, too.

Multi-Animal Rat/Mouse Tail Blood Pressure
for fast, easy automation of up to 15 animals

The RTBP021 rat tail blood pressure pump and warming pad
interface, when used with the RTBP001 data acquisition and
control system, provides complete unattended operation for
detecting systolic blood pressure and heart rate in rats, mice and
other rodents with tails.

The pump is controlled by the RTBP001 system to automatically
inflate and deflate the occlusion cuffs for up to 15 rats,
mice or other animals. The warming pad interface can be used
to operate groups of warming pads automatically.

Other parameters such as inflation pressure, cycle time, number
of cycles are set with controls on the computer monitor.

To obtain the best and most consistent blood pressure readings from
rat and mouse tails, the animals need to be calm, quite, with a low
level of stre s s. They may also require some warming to cause the
dilation of the tail art e r i e s.


The nose cone warming restrainers are excellent for warming
animals in procedures that require tail vasodilation such as noninvasive
BP measurements, tail blood samples or simply keeping
the animal quiet.


The restrainers feature an adjustable front nose cone for diff e r e n t
size animals. The specially designed nose cone greatly limits
turning and movement that occur with flat front restrainers.
Animals are attracted into the dark cone and have less stress
being in a dark, close space. Nose cones are angled to limit
chewing. As the animal burrows into the dark cone, the ability
to move its head and front paws is greatly reduced.

The restrainers feature a c l e a r, low voltage warming pad and s e l f
regulating contro l l e r. Attached below the floor as a safety feature,
the animal is never in direct contact with the warming pad. A n i m a l s
enter the restrainers easily and can remain comfortable for hours.
The nose cone restrainers are available in small, medium, large and
mouse sizes.


Using the RTBP030 warming pad is the intelligent way to warm
animals. Each pad applies a proportional amount of heat k e e p i n g
the animals at the constant temperature, thus eliminating the
variability that occurs in hot air c h a m b e r s.


The low voltage proportional controller senses temperature directly
from the warming pad elements and varies the electrical current to
maintain the pad temperature constant. Since the pad is long lasting,
it is supplied with an adhesive strip to permanently bond it to the
bottom of the restrainer.

The Clam Shell Restrainer is a unique device for rodents
where the head cannot be placed in a standard restrainer.


The clam shell restrainer has the features needed for demanding
research. The restrainer telescopes, so it can be adjusted for
long or short animals. The front neck plates are thin and have a
V shaped slot, as the top plate is pushed down, it quickly adjusts
to the proper size of the neck to restrain the animal.
The main tube of the restrainer is hinged and completely opens.

The animal can quickly and easily be placed in the restrainer
without disturbing any connections or instruments on the head.
The tail is also completely available for blood pressure measurements,
blood samples, etc.


The RTBP031 Warming Pad and Controller can be added to the
restrainer for warming the animal for tail blood pressure monitoring,
tail vein sampling or other procedures.

                    Rabbit Restrainer

The stainless steel restrainers last for ever and the wire top gives
much more access to the animal compared to plastic restrainers.
Body is fabricated from 22 ga. stainless steel. Restrainer is equipped
with an adjustable pusher plate which holds the animal from behind
and a stainless steel cone-shape insert which holds the animals neck
s e c u r e l y. The top hinged cover is fabricated from 3/16 stainless rods,
a spring lock holds the top firmly closed during confinement.

The restraint cones are excellent where high frequency sampling is
required. The cone immobilizes the head and front paws leaving
access to the rest of the body. The stainless steel construction holds
up to animal teeth, dropping, etc. The restrainer cones are fabricated
from 24 ga. stainless steel base plate is 11 ga. stainless with a gusset
welded to plate and cone.

The direct blood pressure system consists of two parts, the computer data

and the signal component. Select the computer component

The single blood pressure channel includes base instrumentation amplifier
